The Square is a space that nurtures and supports innovation, creativity, the arts, culture and storytelling. Our annual events include Kampala Design Week, Writivism - Literature Festival, Uganda Press Photo Awards and the SWARM tech summit.
The rooftop event space encompasses 1000sqm. It is a versatile space -a blank canvas- for event organisers to create unique experiences. The space has been used for small and large concerts and workshops. It has been used as a TV/Radio studio, for commercials and photoshoots, for Kampala Fashion Week and as a theatre space for Kampala International Theatre Festival. We have hosted press conferences and launch events and training seminars.

The rooftop terrace boasts a fully stocked bar where our resident mixologist creates cocktails to suit your mood or occasion. Alongside the bar is an open kitchen equipped with all the tools of the trade. The Square kitchen is currently in partnership with iRamen - Kampala's Japanese noodle shop.
The bar and kitchen caters to all events at The Square and is open to the general public every Thursday, Friday and Saturday when there are no events booked.

The Uganda Press Photo Award (UPPA) was conceived with support from the Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in 2012 as a competition for Ugandan photojournalists and photographers who work hard and sometimes take great risks so the rest of us can stay informed about what is happening. The award’s aim is to promote the best of today’s photojournalism in Uganda, supporting visual literacy as well as encouraging a new generation of photographers by focusing on photographic education through their programmes. It also seeks to remind the viewing public of the importance of a vibrant press for democratic development.
The Square works closely with UPPA and is honoured to have hosted UPPA 2017 and 2018. UPPA has partnered with The Square to oversee ongoing photography related exhibitions and activities.
Center for African Cultural Excellence (CACE) is a Uganda based non-profit that promotes the utility of the arts and culture in society. It was founded by Bwesigye Bwa Mwesigire, Naseemah Mohamed and Kyomuhendo A Ateenyi in 2012.
CACE founded Writivism an annual festival and a platform promoting African literature.
The Square proudly hosted Writivism 2017 and 2018.
Silent Voices Uganda is a not for profit making all Female Founding Directors’ Performing Arts (Theatre /Film/Television/Radio dramas) Development and Production organization founded with the mission to rekindle and develop the industry in Uganda and East Africa.
The Square has worked with SVU since 2017 by providing rehearsal space for their performances.
40 Days Over 40 Smiles Foundation (40-40) is a Kampala based independent, youth-led, charity organisation. 40-40 is committed to helping vulnerable children and communities to access quality, all-round education support and entrepreneurial training aimed at self-sustainability.
The Square supports 40-40 by hosting game nights as well as other events to raise funds.
Kampala Design Week is a social enterprise that exists to inspire, equip and engage individuals and institutions to design sustainable solutions for East Africa’s challenges.
KDW hosts Design Garages at The Square as well as activities centred around the annual events on the KDW programme.
East African Records is devoted to bringing new and exciting music from East Africa to the world and they also bring the world to Uganda. The Square has proudly hosted a series of events with EAR - Kalabash being the most popular.
